The Hydra-Terra
The Land Sharks are Hydra Terras — purpose-built amphibious vehicles manufactured in New York State. These aren't old military DUCKs from World War II. They're modern 2003 & 2015 vessels designed specifically for the tourist industry, and are both DMV and U.S. Coast Guard certified, inspected, and approved.
One of only about 100 worldwide, the Hydra-Terra is the only amphibious vessel with positive buoyancy foam-filled compartments — meaning it stays afloat even with drain plugs removed and full engine room flooding. The U.S. Coast Guard has verified it to be more stable in the water than any other amphibious vehicle in the world.
On Land
Powered by 300hp Cummins ISB Near-Zero emissions diesel engines with Allison transmissions, Anti-Lock disc brakes, and electronic steering. Capable of up to 70 mph on land. Operated by commercial drivers holding a Class B CDL with bus certification, as required by the California DMV.
On Water
Cruising at 9 knots, each vessel is operated by a U.S. Coast Guard Licensed Master Captain with a first mate and tour guide on board. All crew are trained in safety procedures, first aid, and CPR, and are DOT drug tested per U.S. Coast Guard requirements.
